ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to be on the lookout for a suspect in a Montgomery County homicide.

The RCSO posted to its Facebook page Sunday photos from a “senseless and brutal murder” of a convenience store clerk in the town of Star, about a half-hour north of Rockingham.

RCSO and police in Biscoe are assisting the Star Police Department in the case.

“Let’s get this evil-doer off our streets and bring justice to the victim!” a post from the Biscoe Police Department reads.

WXII reports the shooting happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday at the Quik Chek.

Citing investigators, WXII reports that the suspect walked into the store wearing a hood and a mask, brandished a gun and jumped over the counter before shooting the clerk, a 53-year-old woman, three times.

WGHP, citing Chief David Kime, reports that the woman was shot with a .22-caliber handgun. The chief also reportedly told WGHP that the suspect had a conversation with her and didn’t present the gun until she opened the cash drawer.
