Trio charged in East Rockingham arson case

ROCKINGHAM — Three young men are accused of setting fire to an occupied home last month.

According to warrants, 20-year-old Braxton Paul Vuncannon of Ellerbe, and Richard Paul Vuncannon Jr. and Larry Dean Martin Jr., both of Mill Road, burned a home at 259 Safie Second St. in East Rockingham on March 16.

At least one person was inside the home at the time of the fire, according to warrants.

Charges were filed by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Braxton Vuncannon was arrested March 25, and Richard Vucannon and Martin were arrested March 26, according to Richmond County Jail records.

Each is charged with a single count of first-degree arson and is being held on a $100,000 secured bond. The three are scheduled to appear in court April 11.

None of the defendants appear to have any other pending charges or prior convictions based on online state records.
