HOFFMAN — Two men are facing charges connected to an alleged robbery that happened several weeks ago.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the unnamed victim had placed an advertisement for a gaming computer on Facebook Marketplace.
Rashad Tyrique Horton, 21, of Hoffman, allegedly agreed to meet the victim on April 18 off of Wall Avenue in Hoffman to buy the computer. But when the victim got there, Horton allegedly pulled out a gun and ordered the victim out of the vehicle.
Investigators say 19-year-old Jabaree Lysun Hailey, also of Hoffman, then walked out from the woodline and helped Horton take property from the victim’s vehicle and person.
According to the sheriff’s office, the pair took the computer, along with a handgun, jewelry, tools, clothing and “assorted personal items.”
Horton and Hailey were arrested Thursday, May 4 and each charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. Hailey was also charged with resisting a public officer.
Horton was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $50,000 secured bond, Hailey on a $20,000 secured bond. Both were still being held Friday afternoon and they are scheduled to appear in court May 11.
Online court records show Horton has the following pending charges:
- 2019 – breaking or entering motor vehicles; misdemeanor larceny
- 2022 – robbery with a dangerous weapon; assault by pointing a gun; assault with a deadly weapon; possession of a stolen firearm; possessing, selling or buying a gun with an altered serial number; possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana; possession of marijuana; and resisting a public officer.
Hailey has no other pending charges.
State records show neither defendant has any prior convictions in North Carolina.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
