ROCKINGHAM — Beer from more than a dozen craft breweries will be flowing at Rockingham Speedway on Saturday for the inaugural Hops and Hot Rods at the Rock.

The event is being organized by Richmond County Economic Development — which picked it up when the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce announced in July that it was canceling Hoptoberfest — and several other local and regional partners.

Sandhills-based Southern Pines Brewing Company out of Moore County, Gaston Brewing Company of Fayetteville and Dirtbag Ales of Hope Mills, both in Cumberland County, will be on tap for samples and pint purchases.

Others include: NoDa Brewing Company of Charlotte; Hi-Wire Brewing, Highland Brewing Company and Wicked Weed Brewing of Asheville; Oskar Blues Brewery of Brevard; Red Oak Brewing Company of Guilford County; Aviator Brewing Company of Fuquay-Varina; Triangle-based Gizmo Brew Works; Foothills Brewing of Winston-Salem; Mother Earth Brewery of Kinston; Colorado-based New Belgium Brewing Company; and Florida-based Cigar City Brewing.

Organizers say domestic beers will also be available.

In lieu of the annual chicken wing contest from previous events, Pitmaster Ron Simmons of Masterblend Family Farms in Keanansville will be cooking up wings donated by Perdue Farms of Rockingham.

Several local food trucks — including Burger Bros and the Taco Factory — will also be on site, and entertainment will be provided by DJ Solo and the band Bantum Rooster of Asheboro.

As for the “hot rods” portion of the event, members of the Sandhills Motoring Club (partnering with James White) will have their vehicles on display near the Papa Joe Hendrick Garage; and Seat Time Racing Experience will be taking laps around the historic oval.

(Note: Seat Time ride-alongs are not included in the event’s ticket price.)

Seat Time returned to the Rock in 2021 after more than a decade away and has hosted driving courses at the track at least twice a year since.

Hops and Hot Rods will coincide with RCED’s fourth annual Raffle at the Rock fundraiser.

More than 30 prizes are being offered during the raffle, including a Kawasaki Mule, Polaris 4-wheeler, four Carolina Panthers tickets and more than $5000 in cash.

A drawing for two early bird prizes was held in early September.

The drawing will take place soon after gates open at 4 p.m.

Tickets are still available at the Richmond County administration building, eventbrite.com or the event’s website: hopsandhotrodsattherock.com
