Courts Remain Closed After Florence Flooding, Richmond Reopens Tuesday

ROCKINGHAM — Court will be back in session in Richmond County Tuesday, but remain closed in the rest of the judicial district following flooding and other damage by Hurricane Florence.

Chief District Court Judge Scott Brewer announced a second day of closures on his Facebook page Monday afternoon.

“There will be no court of any type in Anson, Hoke, and Scotland counties tomorrow,” he said. “We will re-evaluate conditions in these counties during the day tomorrow to determine future court schedules.”

Brewer added that some of the courthouses may be open on limited hours for “non-court matters, and encouraged residents to call ahead.

“Most of the staffs are significantly affected by the storms and whether the courthouses are open will be determined on a county by county basis,” he added. “Looking at today’s conditions I doubt they will have the ability to open.”

The courts in Scotland and Hoke counties have not been in session since Wednesday before the storm, while Richmond and Anson county closed midday on Thursday.

All courts in Richmond County will resume on Tuesday.

Richmond County Clerk of Superior Court Vickie Daniel said Monday that computers were still down, but her office has been able to take care of domestic violence protection orders.
