Gospel concert planned to benefit Richmond County pastor

ROCKINGHAM — Three regional gospel groups are coming together for a concert to benefit a Richmond County pastor.

Next Chapter of Laurinburg, the Bobby Deal Family of Lumberton and 2nd Chance Ministries of Cheraw, South Carolina, will be singing Oct. 17 at Mount Carmel Free Will Baptist Church to raise money for medical expenses for Ricky Jacobs and his family.

The concert was put together by Randy Stubbs, who said he’s known Jacobs his entire life, adding that his father used to play guitar for Jacobs years ago.

“He’s one of the most givingest men I’ve ever met,” Stubbs said about Jacobs. “He has a heart the size of Richmond County.”

Stubbs said he wanted to help the family in their time of need.

“Anytime someone’s in the hospital is a struggling time,” he said.

All three groups perform at Jacobs’ church, Southside Free Will Baptist in Ellerbe, throughout the year, according to Stubbs, and they all agreed to sing at the concert to help him out.

The concert, which begins at 6 p.m., will be at Mount Carmel’s outside singing shelter.

Stubbs offered his thanks to the church for hosting the event.

Seats will be spaced apart for social distancing and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

They can also remain in their vehicles and listen to the concert on the radio.

A love offering will be taken up for the Jacobs family.

Last month, Raider Stadium at Richmond Senior High School was lit up green for Jacobs.
