PINEHURST — FirstHealth of the Carolinas proudly welcomes Amanda McGarry, PA-C to the radiation oncology team at the FirstHealth Cancer Center.
McGarry brings more than 16 years of patient care experience to her role at the FirstHealth Cancer Center. Prior to joining the cancer care team, she served as a physician assistant with Pinehurst Medical Clinic in gastroenterology for 11 years. Before that, she dedicated three years as an inpatient internal medicine PA at Womack Army Medical Center and served for approximately a year at Carolina Cardiology in Fayetteville. Her diverse background and dedication to patient care make her a valuable addition to the FirstHealth Cancer Center.
A native of Lillington, N.C., McGarry attributes her passion for health care to her upbringing, where she learned the values of compassion and empathy from her family and community. Her experiences in volunteering, particularly at Helping Hands, a therapeutic horse-riding program for children, ignited her interest in becoming a physician assistant.
“I enjoyed caring for those children, seeing the change of their minds and overall positive enlightenment,” she shared.
After obtaining her degree in biology with a minor in chemistry and physics from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., she pursued her physician assistant studies at Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., graduating in December 2007.
Reflecting on her journey, McGarry emphasizes her commitment to treating patients with the same level of care and kindness she would want for her own family. Her practice philosophy centers on compassion, echoing the timeless adage, “Treat others as you would like to be treated.”
McGarry’s transition to radiation oncology stems from her desire to expand her impact on patient care and give back to the community. She is eager to leverage her expertise to provide exceptional service to patients and collaborate with the team at the FirstHealth Cancer Center.
“I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter at FirstHealth,” said McGarry. “The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of cancer patients is incredibly rewarding, and I am honored to be part of such a dedicated team.”
