Book signing, summer reading programs, moon landing celebration highlight Richmond County library events

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Public Libraries have released their summer schedule. 

Book Signing and Meet the Author 

Lance Jenkins, co-founder of The Richmond Observer will be at Leath Memorial Library July 15 to hold a book signing and “meet the author” for his debut novel, “A New Requiem.” The event will be held from 4-6 p.m.

Summer Reading Programs

Summer reading programs will be held at each of the county’s three public libraries.

Leath Memorial Library will be holding reading sessions 10:00 am, Thursdays, July 11 through Aug. 22. Crafts will be held July 15 and Aug. 12. Those wishing to participate in the craft sessions must pre-register.   

Hamlet Public Library will have reading programs on July 15, Aug. 9, Aug. 14 and Aug. 21. Craft classes will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. from June 18-July 31. 

Kemp Public Library’s reading program is scheduled for July 9,16,17, 23, 30, 31 and Aug. 6, 13,14 and 20. 

Summer Movie Schedule

Leath Memorial Library will be showing family movies Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and kids movies Fridays at 10 a.m.

  • July 24- Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald 
  • July 31-Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

  • July 12- Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch 
  • July 19- How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World 
  • July 26- Paw Patrol: Pups Save Puplantis!
  • August 2- Mary Poppins Returns 
  • August 9- The Lego Movie: The Second Part 
  • August 16- Disney’s Kim Possible 

Kids Disaster Preparedness Event 

Sandhills Center will be presenting a presentation entitled, “Learn About How to Get Ready for Disasters!” at Leath Memorial Library on Aug. 13 from 10:30 -11:30 a.m.

50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing 

Leath Memorial Library and Discovery Place Kids are sponsoring a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing on July 20, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Leath Memorial Library. The celebration will include a presentation from NASA, Starlab, a bouncy house, cornhole boards, and face painting.
