Certified physician assistant Aubrey Kinsman joining FirstHealth’s Heart Failure Clinic

PINEHURST — Certified physician assistant Aubrey Kinsman, who has worked with heart patients at FirstHealth since 2017, is joining the staff at the Heart Failure Clinic at Reid Heart Center.

Kinsman has more than a decade of health care experience after earning her Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies in 2008 at Hofstra University.

After working with cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients at FirstHealth since 2017, Kinsman said she is excited to help patients at the Heart Failure Clinic.

“I have been a physician assistant for about 15 years now and I have always enjoyed working in heart services. Heart failure patients are an extremely special group who tend to be complex and challenging,” she said. “What makes caring for heart failure patients exciting to me is that there are a lot of times when you can make a drastic improvement to their daily life. You get to follow up with them frequently and can closely monitor their progress and see their strides and the improvements.”

Kinsman said she was inspired to enter health care because she enjoys helping others.

“From a very young age I knew I would be in health care and that I really would not fit anywhere else,” she said. “I have always wanted to help people and make them feel better. It is special to have a job where you can make a decision or perform a procedure and see how it helps somebody moving forward.”

FirstHealth opened its Heart Failure Clinic in early 2020. Once a patient is referred to the clinic, they will undergo an extensive evaluation by a team of experts in the management of heart failure and receive appropriate therapeutic options and educational needs that will help them better understand and actively manage their heart failure.

The goal of the clinic is to minimize rehospitalization, reduce mortality and improve the quality of life for patients with heart failure.
