Family nurse practitioner joins FirstHealth Internal Medicine in Hamlet

HAMLET — FirstHealth Internal Medicine is pleased to welcome Laura Snead, FNP to the clinic located at 222 West Main St. in Hamlet. She joins the practice of Luiz M. Nascimento, M.D., and Diane Brown, ANP. Snead has worked in urgent care, emergency care, ICU and home care and brings more than 10 years of nursing experience.

A native of Richmond County, Snead said she considers it a privilege to work for FirstHealth and to care for individuals in her hometown.

“FirstHealth is known for an outstanding organizational culture, strong values and high-quality care,” she said. “I’m excited for this opportunity and find gratification in being able to care for patients in the community where I grew up.”

Snead said she’s always had a desire to help people and became interested in health care at a young age through job shadowing in nursing.

“I was 12 or 13 years old when I first shadowed a nurse at the former Sandhills Regional Medical Center in Hamlet,” she recalled. “That experienced sealed the deal for me, and I knew right away that I wanted to be a nurse.”

It was during that job shadowing experience when Snead first met Dr. Nascimento.

“I never could have imagined that 20 years later, I would join his practice,” she added. “I’ve always held him in such high regard.”

Snead obtained her associate degree in nursing from Richmond Community College. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Family Nurse Practitioner from South University in Savannah, Georgia.

Prior to joining FirstHealth, she served as a family nurse practitioner at an urgent care clinic in Asheboro.

Snead said she is committed to treating each patient as an individual and partner in improving their health and quality of life and follows the philosophy of well-known physician and clown Patch Adams.

“You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee, you’ll win, no matter the outcome.”

When she’s not caring for patients, Snead enjoys spending time with family, reading and being outdoors.

Laura Snead, FNP will begin seeing patients on Jan. 30, 2023. To make an appointment, call FirstHealth Internal Medicine-Hamlet at 910-205-0400.
