ROCKINGHAM — FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital–Richmond has earned an eighth straight “A” in The Leapfrog Group’s hospital safety grades.

The national honor reflects MRH–Richmond’s commitment to safety and places it among the safest hospitals in the United States.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers.

The Safety Grade assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care. This is MRH–Richmond’s eighth consecutive “A” grade from The Leapfrog Group.

John Jackson, president of FirstHealth’s southern region, said earning the Leapfrog “A” safety grade for the eighth time in a row is a reflection of the outstanding medical staff and hospital staff that are driven to provide high quality and safe patient care each and every day.

“The last year has been full of challenges, but the health care heroes who serve patients at MRH–Richmond remain fully committed to keeping our patients safe and providing high-quality care,” Jackson said. “We all take a lot of pride in providing high-quality, safe care, and we are honored to receive this recognition again from The Leapfrog Group. We thank the community for trusting us to care for them.”

Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public. Updated every six months, the Safety Grade is based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms in patient care.
