PEMBROKE — The Givens Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is proud to announce the 2019 Hearts for the Arts Fundraiser on Thursday, Feb. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the University Center Annex.
Spend an unforgettable Valentine’s evening while making an impact in the community. The night will feature the 1926 silent film comedy, “Mighty Like a Moose,” accompanied with live music by notable composer and organist, Mark Andersen and singer, Maggie Duffy. The event includes dinner and a silent auction. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hearts for the Arts program at GPAC.
Lumberton native Mark Andersen is an award-winning composer and multi-talented musician, having performed around the world. He served as the head staff arranger for NBC Studios in New York. He is a recipient of North Carolina’s highest arts award, the North Carolina Award of Excellence, and he is a past president of International Artists Foundation. He studied music at Mars Hill College, East Carolina University, the American Conservatory and the Paris Conservatory.
Hearts for the Arts furthers GPAC’s mission to make cultural and performing arts experiences accessible to the entire community, including disadvantaged youth and patrons with disabilities. The program also supports the GPAC Onstage for Youth Series, which makes matinee performances available at low costs for area schools.
