HAMLET — Five entries caught the judges’ eyes — and ears — Thursday evening during the Seaboard City’s fourth annual Parade of Lights.
Once again, Richmond County Hospice was one of the top floats, winning the award in the community category.
Prior to the honors being separated by categories, Richmond County Hospice was named the No. 1 float for three consecutive years.
The entry— designed by Nic Wilkes — had a late-1800s, old-fashioned theme, led by snow fairies, followed by a sleigh pulled by a reindeer, with several others walking behind in costume. Nearly 20 staff and volunteers participated.
The Cooke Boys Septic Services repeated their “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” theme from 2023, which led to them winning the business category. Last year, they won Director’s Choice.
This year’s Director’s Choice winner was DHI Builders and Salon on Broad.
Joy Free Will Baptist Church, which one second place last year, won in the church category; the Treasure Shop was picked as the brightest; the Fighting Scots from Scotland High School were named best band.
Director of Community Engagement Mechelle Preslar said there were 100 entries in the parade this year.
