HAMLET — Seventy retired railroad workers were treated to a luncheon in the rotunda Wednesday.

Hamlet Depot and Museums hosted the event for CSX retirees for the first time since 2019.

According to Depot Director Mechelle Preslar, the event started in 2005 and she said organizers were “so glad to bring it back.”

Preslar added the luncheon has been held at various venues across the county over the years.
Wednesday’s event was catered by Seaboard Station.

Any retirees interested in being part of next year’s event are encouraged to contact the Depot.
Following a two-month break to avoid the summer heat, the Boxcar Concert Series returns to Main Street Park on Friday.

The Boxcar Concert Series was moved this year to coincide with TGIFridays on Main, across the street at the Depot.

Randolph County band Eck and the Radio will be performing from 6-8 p.m. Preslar describes the music as “like classic country but with a twist.”
