HAMLET – Harriet Wolf, famed and beloved author, has a final confession. It can be found only in the final book of the series that made her a famous writer. But does that book even exist? And if it does, does anyone know where to find it?

This engrossing novel goes through the whole twentieth century and three generations of women. The book tells the story of a mother, her daughter, and two granddaughters. One of the granddaughters is the only person that knows about Harriet’s seventh novel. Will the truth ever be known, or is Harriet’s story, the story each of these women ache for, gone forever?

This book focuses on family dynamic and dysfunction. It looks at the complicated relationship between mothers and daughters.

While reading you can feel the love the author has for her characters. She shows the affection she feels for them in the way she connects and separates them. The story is told by each character in alternating chapters. Harriet’s story I loved the most; it was compelling, learning of her life and tragedies.

The side characters even feature compelling and engaging personalities. No one is perfect; in life we know that but it is always nice to see flawed characters in stories. They are people to whom one can relate and find pieces of yourself in.

This is a story that spans ages, histories, and families. Looking at the deeper side of the ones we love- and the hidden sides of ourselves – is an important but oft forgotten action.

Harriett Wolf’s Seventh Book of Wonders is a must read for those of us trying to understand ourselves and the people around us.
