The Givens Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will present the holiday classic “The Nutcracker Ballet” on Sunday, November 20, at 4 p.m.

The special production is sponsored by Howington Office Products.

Tickets range from $31 to $41 for adults and $18 for children 12 and under.

The Nutcracker ballet, based on the story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E.T.A. Hoffman, with music by Tchaikovsky, is a classical ballet in two acts. The story’s origins are rooted in the success of “Sleeping Beauty,” also choreographed by Marius Petipa.

The show brings to life such popular classics as the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Waltz of the Flowers.”

“The Nutcracker is a holiday staple,” said James Bass, executive director of Givens Performing Arts Center. “We’re proud to present this classic ballet as part of our season. We are delighted to offer it just in time to help set the holiday mood.”

The ballet is produced by Dance Alive National Ballet and features an international roster of award-winning dancers. The company has performed more than 200 times in the United States, Costa Rica, Brazil, Russia and Bulgaria.
