ROCKINGHAM — If you’re quick-witted and can think on the fly, you may want to come out to the latest installations of Improv Night at Richmond Community Theatre.
Theater Director Merrie Dawkins last week announced that Improv Night would be returning as part of the theater’s 2021 season of activities.
“We really want to give everybody a chance to get out and have some fun and be creative,” Dawkins said Monday. “That’s what theater’s all about.”
Dawkins said there will be a lot of “fun things” to do.
Like the television show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” participants use improvisational skills in games such as Scenes from a Hat — where they act out (often awkward) situations listed on a slip of paper drawn from a hat — and Party Quirks — where several people portray guests at a party and the host has to guess who they are.
They also get to play with props, coming up with alternative ideas for the items they’re handed.
There will be three Improv Nights this summer: June 24, July 22 and Aug. 19, starting at 6:30 p.m.
“It’s family-geared,” Dawkins said. “So bring your family, bring your date, come by yourself, whatever.”
Admission is free, though Dawkins said donations are “always welcome.”
The first event in January of 2020 raised nearly $300 for the theater.
“We had a good response to it and that’s another reason that we really want to do it,” Dawkins said. “It was a lot of fun.
“We’re a community theater, so we want to do things for our community,” she continued. “Come on out and have a good time.”
RCT will also host its annual Young People’s Theatre Camp, Monday-Friday Aug. 2-13.
