ROCKINGHAM — On Monday, Sept. 21st, North Carolina Emergency Management Director Mike Sprayberry made the drive from Raleigh to present Richmond County Emergency Services Director Donna Wright, the North Carolina Emergency Management Directors Award.

This award is presented to deserving Emergency Management partners who go above and beyond for the betterment of their community and state.

This award comes following the retirement of Wright, who on Friday retired from Richmond County Emergency Services after 30 years.

Wright started with Richmond County Emergency Services in early 1992, after getting her start in public safety as a telecommunicator for the Hamlet Police Department. She has served in many positions with Emergency Services to include telecommunicator, training officer, deputy director and director.

During the presentation, Sprayberry said, “While serving as the director of Emergency Services, and the emergency management coordinator for Richmond County, Mrs. Wright has endeavored to develop innovative processes, provide excellent training, and serve as a forward thinking leader to the residents, visitors, and the first responder colleagues both in Richmond County, and across the state.”

Director Sprayberry went on to say that “Donna is a nationally recognized subject matter expert in emergency communications, a trusted partner to North Carolina Emergency Management, and a valued member of the State Emergency Response Team.”

Following the presentation, Sprayberry thanked Wright and her staff for all of their hard work and dedication shown to the citizens of Richmond County and North Carolina.
