ASHEBORO — Today, the North Carolina Zoo announces the permanent closure of its Aviary Habitat. Built in the early 1980s, the 40-year-old domed structure requires significant repairs due to the effects of high humidity and wet conditions. The difficult decision to close and take down the habitat has been made by Zoo leadership and the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

NC Zoo delivers outdoor play kits to NC teachers

ASHEBORO —The NC Zoo Society and North Carolina Zoo are excited to partner with T-Mobile to provide classroom kits that support incorporating nature exploration, playful learning, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) approaches into local classroom curricula.

Grizzly bear has new home at NC Zoo

ASHEBORO — The North Carolina Zoo announces the arrival of its newest resident — a 740-pound male grizzly bear named Ronan.

ASHEBORO — The North Carolina Zoo is pleased to announce it has once again received the honor of accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Every five years, the Zoo is required to go through the entire application process to retain its accreditation. The AZA awarded accreditation to the Zoo following a rigorous inspection visit earlier in the year.
