ROCKINGHAM — A longtime Richmond County health worker is getting help from her hospital cohorts for her battle with cancer.

A fundraiser is planned for Friday, April 5 at Kountry Kitchen on Airport Road to help Sharon Odom cover the costs of cancer treatment.

The event is being organized by Heather Haynes and Clint Downer, both of whom have worked with Odom for more than 15 years.

Odom is the director of the Emergency Department at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond and has been at the hospital for more than two decades.

According to Haynes, doctors discovered Odom’s cancer during gallbladder surgery, which has since spread to her lymph nodes.

Odom is currently being treated in Moore County, but will be going to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, New York, “more intense treatment,” Haynes said.

The Kountry Kitchen will be selling barbecue and grilled chicken plates for $15 from 11 a.m. until, according to a flier. Haynes said the food was donated, so all proceeds will be going toward the cause.

In addition to the plates, they will also be raffling off several items including: a skydiving experience; a fishing wagon; cornhole boards; a three-hour rental at Southern Touch at the Estates; and various gift bags and gift certificates from businesses in the community.

“We have a lot of prizes,” Haynes said.

The raffle tickets will be sold until just before the drawing. Any extra donations will also be accepted.

“We’ll take whatever anyone wants to give us,” Haynes said.
