OPINION: Small businesses, big impact

When you think of a small business, what comes to mind? Is it the cozy restaurant where you’ve been going for takeout and date night for the last few years? Is it the local shop that sponsors your child’s little league team? For us, it’s our colleagues, friends, and neighbors down the street who have taken the leap to start or grow a business.

PEMBROKE — On Aug. 27, 2021, the National Association of Development Organizations announced the winners of the 2021 NADO Aliceann Wohlbruck Impact Awards. The NADO Impact Awards recognize creative approaches to the advancement of regional economic development and the improvement of quality of life. This year, only 102 projects from across the country were recognized, with the Lumber River Council of Governments receiving three of these awards.

HAMLET — Richmond Community College invited state representatives and local community and educational leaders to a Legislative Breakfast on Monday to discuss the 2019 legislative agenda that will be presented to the General Assembly with requests for additional investments in programs and technology that foster workforce development.

HAMLET – Richmond Community College’s longtime partnership with the International Textile Group (ITG) continues to grow, as the College will be providing $33,843 in state-funded training for 70 employees. Some of the training will include operation of new equipment the Cordova plant is purchasing for increased efficiency in its production lines.
