HAMLET — A week after learning she had an outstanding warrant, a woman has turned herself in.

Nancy Ingram, of Hamlet, turned herself in at the Richmond County Magistrate’s office around 11 a.m. Saturday and was served by the Rockingham Police Department, according to Detective Capt. Randy Dover.

Ingram is charged with a single felony count of harboring a fugitive. Investigators believe she was helping 22-year-old Edward McNair Sloan — accused of shooting a man outside the Richmond County Soup Kitchen on Oct. 24 — hide prior to his arrest the following day.

4 Rockingham Officers Promoted to Sergeant

ROCKINGHAM — Four of the city’s “boys in blue” were promoted to the rank of sergeant during a ceremony at city hall Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Billy Kelly said the promotions were based on each officer’s years of service, the amount of training received beyond what’s required, commitment to the community and demonstrating the ability “lead, not just dictate” — all while balancing a family life.

City Manager Monty Crump thanked the family members who were in attendance for the support of their loved ones in law enforcement.

HAMLET— Two men are facing theft charges following a chase with police late Wednesday night.

Sgt. Robert Carlisle was patrolling the area around Rollins Avenue when he saw a Nissan Altima on the side of the road, according to a police report. When he got closer, the car pulled out and turned right onto N.C. 177— with the left rear door still open.

The report notes that Carlisle could see something lodged in the door, but couldn’t tell what it was.

He caught up with the Altima near Oak Street and turned on his lights to make a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, the driver allegedly accelerated to between 75 and 80 mph.
