HAMLET — One Richmond County school is being re-designated as a “School to Watch,”  one of 400 across the nation.

The district announced Monday that Hamlet Middle School has earned the distinction for 2019 from the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform.

HAMLET— Richmond County students will miss yet another day due a hurricane.

The school district announced on its Facebook page Wednesday afternoon that there would be no classes or athletics on Thursday, when Hurricane Michael — currently expected to be a tropical storm by then — makes its way through the Carolinas.

While a message will be sent out at 5 p.m. Thursday regarding classes on Friday, Homecoming activities are still on track.

HAMLET— The Richmond County Board of Education got a clean bill of fiscal health, according to an audit report presented at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Dale Smith, of Anderson Smith & Wike, told school board members that there were no internal control weaknesses, questionable costs or improper use of grant funds. He added that there were no issues at the individual schools.

“It appears that the bookkeepers at all of the schools are doing a good job,” he said. “Overall, the audit went very smoothly, no major issues were noted, the district appears to be in excellent financial condition.”
