We Are Richmond County

We Are Richmond County

I am a child and a parent.

I am the stranger you pass in the grocery store and the friend you catch up with on aisle six.

I am the fast food worker in the drive thru and the nurse checking your vitals to ensure your health.

I am you.

I am Richmond County.

Without you, I am just a place.

A simple place with roads, stoplights, and buildings.

What makes me unique is you.

The people that work diligently with most of their work going unnoticed.

No matter how small your contribution may seem, you are still part of the bigger picture.

Despite the differences we have, we come together to make me what I am.

Working hard everyday to make me beautiful and prosperous.

No, I am not perfect, but you are striving for my perfection.

We are different.

We are committed.

We are hardworking.

We are Richmond County.

Richmond County: It's Where I Want To Be

Well here we are! After months of speculation and anticipation, The Richmond Observer is finally here. I am grateful for your support up to this point, and hope you will enjoy our latest edition and stories Monday through Saturday of every week.

I grew up in Northampton County, NC, a county where the largest town is no bigger than Ellerbe, so when I moved to Richmond County I thought I had landed in "the big city". I am fully aware, nonetheless, that Rockingham nor any town in Richmond County is "the big city", and I am so thankful for it.

ROCKINGHAM —Reaching out and helping others is a staple of the hospice community, and starting this week, Richmond County Hospice will be doing just that as it prepares to add onto its medical campus.

Referred to as a "homegrown organization," RCH broke ground Thursday morning for its new Hospice Haven facility at 1119 North US Highway 1 in Rockingham.

In attendance to celebrate the momentous occasion were RCH employees, community members, County Commissioner Don Bryant and Board President Neal Watkins, among others.

The new addition comes as the result of years of planning by CEO Kristina Leyden and her staff.

ROCKINGHAM —Walt Disney World is known to many as the most magical place on Earth, and for the members of the Rockingham and Hamlet Middle School Beta Club, the magic was all around. With a bus full, students and advisors traveled earlier this week to Orlando, Florida to compete against 30 teams from across the nation.

The National Beta Club exists to encourage character, service, academic achievement, and leadership in elementary and secondary school students. Thousands of people were in attendance to show their support and encouragement as Hamlet Middle School shined with creativity by bringing home a first place finish in tee shirt design. Students of Rockingham Middle, Carter Richardson and Will Thompson both brought home a third place finish for their work in visual arts, as well as speech. Lauren Lutz was prepared to rise to the challenge as the Director of Songfest, a competition in which the club is required to rewrite a song that must be under three minutes, while incorporating the Beta Theme.
