ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Soil and Water Conservation District will sponsor one local student delegate for a five-day environmental camp.
The Resource Conservation Workshop is a camp for high school students who are interested in conservation, the environment and natural resources. Five intensive days of Summer for rising 11th- and 12th-grade students with an interest in agriculture or natural resources — soils, aquatics, wildlife, forestry, and more.
The workshop is sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts in conjunction with the North Carolina Division of Soil and Water, North Carolina State University Crop and Soil Science Department, and the Soil and Water Conservation Society Hugh Hammond Bennett Center.
RCW targets hopeful future environmental professionals by giving students a first-hand look at a wide array of conservation careers that they may not know about. Since the camp is housed on the campus of N.C. State University, it also gives students a chance to explore college life.
This is a camp for those who have an interest in nature, the environment, natural resource conservation or are thinking about pursuing a college education in any of these areas.
The Richmond SWCD will pay all camp registration fees. All the student will be responsible for is a few meals on their own and transportation to and from NCSU at the start and end of camp.
This year, the RCW will be June 23 to 28. Priority will be given to rising seniors, but rising sophomores and juniors may apply. Interested students should contact Richmond SWCD office by 5 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2019.
