Coble named Beta of the Month for December 2018

The December Beta of the Month, Megan Coble, is someone who will help whenever help is needed.

Over the summer, three Richmond Senior High School students were invited by American Legion Post 147 to take part in a once in a lifetime opportunity — to attend Tar Heel Boys State and Girls State.  Boys State and Girls State are weeklong programs that bring people together from all over the state to run an imaginary state-sized government. All the delegates come from different upbringings and lifestyles which leads to quite a diverse crowd.

COLUMN: The stranger at the table

A stranger appeared just as we were sitting down for Thanksgiving dinner. And he sat in the chair that we always leave empty to symbolize those, who due to death or distance, could not be with us this year. The stranger then began to talk — and even sometimes sing.

College campuses will more closely resemble the rest of American society under the U.S. Department of Education’s proposed rules for handling sexual harassment and sexual assault allegations.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and her administration unveiled a series of draft regulations interpreting Title IX on Friday morning. While they triggered opposition from some victims’ rights groups, the rules seek only to restore fundamental fairness and replace illegitimate campus kangaroo courts with a deliberative quasi-judicial process.
