State moves in to former Sandhills hospital

HAMLET — Preparations are underway to make sure the former Sandhills Regional Medical Center can handle an overflow of patients not infected with the coronavirus, should the need arise.

ROCKINGHAM — The city’s firefighters and police officers will receive a one-time hazardous duty payment for working through the COVID-19 pandemic.

HAMLET — Crews were on the scene for about two hours for a backyard burn that got out of control Monday evening.

Richmond County COVID-19 count rises to 22

ROCKINGHAM — For the second consecutive day, Richmond County’s coronavirus case count has risen by one, bringing Wednesday’s total to 22.

HAMLET— Police are asking for help in identifying three suspects in separate cases.

ELLERBE — Hundreds of people took advantage of the Perdue Farms poultry sale at the Berry Patch late Thursday morning.

ROCKINGHAM — The number of coronavirus cases in Richmond County remains at a dozen and 21 more individuals have been tested, Health and Human Services Director Dr. Tommy Jarrell announced Wednesday.

ELLERBE — A local produce stand and a poultry company are teaming up to offer discounted prices on chicken and turkey.
