PINEHURST — FirstHealth of the Carolinas is honoring environmental services professional Jean DuBois with the inaugural BEE Award, which recognizes employees who go above and beyond in helping achieve the system’s core purpose — “To Care for People.”
DuBois, 79, has worked at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital for 20 years and “takes care of everyone” at the Troy campus. She was nominated by two coworkers, Samantha Talley, R.N. and Hilary Puzak, R.N.
“I lovingly call her ‘Mama Jean’ because she takes care of everyone at MMH,” Talley wrote in her nomination. “She is known for cooking for the whole hospital about once a week, and at 79 years old she has more energy and works harder than us all. She is often a safety sitter in the emergency department and is very therapeutic and comforting to our patients.”
Puzak called DuBois a jack-of-all-trades and said she serves as a model to other employees at the hospital.
“She is hard working and loved. She touches every department and is part of the charm that makes Montgomery Memorial Hospital a special place to work,” Puzak wrote.
Montgomery Memorial Hospital President Rebecca W. Carter, MSN, R.N., FACHE, said DuBois is a shining example of what it means to serve patients by serving her co-workers.
“It is truly an honor to work alongside Jean, who does so much for all of us here at MMH,” Carter said. “I can’t think of a better person to be honored with the inaugural FirstHealth BEE Award.”
About the Award
The BEE Award (Beyond Exceptional Expectations) is designed to honor non-nurses who help support nurses in delivering exceptional patient care. Nominations could be made to honor patient care technicians, specialty technicians, respiratory therapists, food and nutrition staff, transport or other colleagues outside of nursing.
