ROCKINGHAM – In this week’s edition of the RO’s exclusive “Local Business Spotlight” column, contributor Cleve Baxley meets with Christie Padgett, the owner of Christie’s Home, Garden, Gifts in Rockingham.

In encouraging the successes of local small businesses, the RO uses a question-and-answer format to highlight what local businesses are doing in the community.

Padgett opened her shop earlier this fall, and is currently offering great holiday deals.

Below is the conversation between Baxley and Padgett:

What is your location in Rockingham?

“We are located In Richmond Plaza Shopping Center in Rockingham,” Padgett said.

What days and hours are you open?

“Our regular business hours are 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday,” Padgett explained. “And then Saturdays, we are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.”

“We do have extended hours for the holidays,” she continued. “We are open 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and on Saturdays we are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are also open Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Monday.”

When was Christie’s Home, Garden, Gifts established?

“We officially opened on October 3 of this year,” Padgett noted. “But we got started getting things together in May.”

How did you get the idea to start this business?

“Actually, it is just something that I have wanted to do for a very long time,” Padgett commented. “I have always enjoyed decorating, especially around the holidays. I have always made floral arrangements and that sort of thing.

“I never had the confidence to have my own store, but with my husband Joel’s encouragement, I decided to do it,” she continued. “I would decorate for my friends and family and go do their Christmas trees, help them out, and that’s how it got started.”

What services do you provide?

“We offer home décor and unique gift items,” Padgett said. “We do custom floral arrangements and custom gift baskets. We offer complimentary (gift) wrapping.”

What do you enjoy most about your business?

“Being creative,” Padgett explained. “I love being able to come in here and help someone figure out what is going to look good in their home or if they are looking for that special gift for someone. I like finding something for them that they have not seen anywhere else.”

What is something your business is known for?

“Hopefully we’re known for having a classy, elegant store that you can find something unique,” Padgett said. “I have heard that people feel that this is like a store in the Pinehurst area, but you are also going to receive hometown service.

“We want you to feel that we cater to you and you will leave here with a nicely wrapped packaged. We are here for customer service.”

What is something you would like people to know about your business?

“I don’t think people realize that we do a lot of custom work,” Padgett noted. “We are here if you need a bow made, or a wreath, or garland, or a floral arrangement. We can help you with that.

“If you are looking for a gift and you need it in a unique gift basket , we can help you with that, too. We do try to cater to each customer to what they need.”
