ROCKINGHAM – In this week’s edition of the RO’s exclusive “Local Business Spotlight” column, contributor Cleve Baxley meets with Sarah Ferguson, the owner of Nectar Coffee Shop in Rockingham.

In encouraging the successes of local small businesses, the RO uses a question-and-answer format to highlight what local businesses are doing in the community.

Below is the conversation between Baxley and Ferguson:

What is your location?

“We are located at 1210 Rockingham Road, it is inside of The Hive,” Ferguson said.

How did you get the idea to start this business?

“The Hive was wanting some type of snack bar in it,” Ferguson noted. “And Rebecca had always wanted to start a coffee shop, so it just came together. I now run both the Hive and Nectar Coffee shop.”

When was your business established?

“We were first established in 2015,” Ferguson said.

How many employees do you have?

“There are just three of us,” Ferguson said. “It’s myself, Nikki Ellerbe and Amanda Carter.”

What services do you provide?

“We are a full running coffee shop,” Ferguson explained. “We also have snacks like popcorn, which is mainly for the kids during open play.”

What products do you sell?

“We have lattés and cappuccinos,” Ferguson noted. “We also do fraps and ice lattes. We can also special order ground coffee from a roaster in Southern Pines. We have everything the big stores do and more.”

What do you enjoy most about your business?

“I love meeting people,” commented Ferguson. “It is so much fun to meet people that have never tried coffee or these specialty coffees. I also love coming up with new recipes and trying new things.”

What is your business known for?

“We’re best known for being one of the only gourmet coffee shops around,” she explained.

What is something about your business that people might not know?

“I want people to know that we do discounts,” Ferguson said. “We do student discounts, we do fire and rescue discounts, teachers discounts. We also love for students to come in and use our Wi-Fi, do their studying or just hang out.”

Nectar Coffee Shop is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
