May activities at Discovery Place Kids revolve around environment

ROCKINGHAM — Events at Discovery Place Kids during the month of May will center around the environment and keeping the planet clean.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Sandhills Stage, caped crusader Michael Recycle will help kids discover “the ins and outs of recycling and why it’s important for the health of our planet.”

Down in lab on Wednesdays and Thursdays, participants will learn about the seasons, precipitation, wind and clouds.

On the weekends, kids will learn about the life cycle of plants, starting as a seed. They will even be able to plant a seed and take it home with them.

Activities are at 11: 15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays and 2:15 p.m. on Sundays.

For the special Mother’s Day activity on May 12, kids will be able to make a card for their mothers or someone who is like a mother to them.

There will also be a daily science show in the lab: weekdays at 9:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.;  Saturdays at 9:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.; and Sundays at 3:45 p.m.

This month’s puppet show is “The Shell Game,” where “little explorers will experience an ocean adventure, learning all about sea creatures and how animals depend on each other for survival, featuring Hermie the Hermit Crab and friends Miranda Mermaid, Stella Starfish, Ollie Octopus and Clyde Clownfish.

Discovery Place Kids is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday-Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday; and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday.
