PINEHURST — FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital and Moore Regional Hospital–Richmond were each awarded an ‘A’ in The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2020 hospital safety grades. MRH–Richmond also achieved its seventh “Straight A” honor.
The national honor positions both campuses among the safest hospitals in the United States. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers.
“Patient safety is at the forefront of everything we do at FirstHealth, even as our staff continues to adjust and respond to the demands of COVID-19,” said CEO Mickey Foster. “Earning an ‘A’ reflects our dedication to provide exceptional care to the community, no matter the obstacle.”
The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.
This is MRH–Richmond’s seventh consecutive ‘A’ grade from The Leapfrog Group.
“This grade is a testament to the commitment each employee has to FirstHealth’s core purpose, to care for people,” said John Jackson, president of FirstHealth’s southern region. “We are honored to once again receive recognition of the staff’s dedication and compassion to care for our community.”
Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public. Updated every six months, the Safety Grade is based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms in patient care.
FirstHealth Chief Medical Officer Jenifir Bruno, M.D., said the pandemic has created new opportunities to assess and improve patient care.
