HAMLET — Hands were raised in praise at Main Street Park Friday evening for the June installment of the Boxcar Concert Series.

Regional singing group 2nd Chance Ministries, based out of Cheraw, South Carolina, took the stage as the first gospel group to perform in the series.

Lead vocalist Ricky Malloy and baritone singer Brandon Gainey were joined by Gracen Allison, who was filling in for tenor Brian Alvey.

The group is also scheduled to perform at Unityfest in Cameron on Saturday.

The free monthly series began in 2022 and was held on Sundays, but the decision was made to move it to Friday evenings to coincide with TGIF Food Trucks at the Depot.

Due to the summer heat, the series will take a break in July and August, but return in September with rock band The Radio, followed by country music singer Erik Hawks, a Rockingham native.
