Around 60 vendors lined East Washington Street from the former Food King parking lot to Harrington Square Thursday evening for the first installment of Affair on the Square for 2024.

The skies cleared as hundreds of residents strolled down the sidewalks on both sides of the road, checking out what each table or tent had to offer.

Wares ranged from handmade soaps and candles and other crafts to fresh produce to canned and baked goods. Richmond Community College and Richmond County Aging Services had informational booths set up as local musician Jonathan Robinson performed in the square near the fountain.

Affair on the Square was started in 2016 by the Rockingham Downtown Corporation as a twice-annual evening sidewalk festival, held the second Thursday in May and October.

Although the RDC dissolved earlier this year, the tradition was kept going by organizers Stephanie Thornsbury and Toni Kubiak.
