ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County native Erik Hawks returned home this weekend to open for Bucky Covington at SpringFest.

Hawks graduated from Richmond Senior High School in 2006 and began pursuing a music career soon after he started learning to play guitar at the age of 18.

He’s played several solo gigs at Hudson Brothers Deli, but this was his first time in his hometown with a full band.

The previous night, Hawks and his band peformed Brewgaloo in Raleigh.

In addition to opening this weekend for Covington, Hawks has also previously preceded “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery.

Earlier this year, Hawks was nominated for Male Perfomer of the Year in the Carolina Country Music Awards.

“Words cannot express my gratitude for yesterday’s turnout,” Hawks said in a Facebook post on Sunday. “The shaky weather wasn’t going to stop SpringFest from being awesome! It means so much to have the support of my hometown as I continue on this journey. I’d also like to say just one more time that I have THE BEST band in the world.”
