ROCKINGHAM — The legendary Band of Oz capped off the summer concert season Thursday in Cole Plaza.

The beach music band was the final group to perform for Rockingham’s Plaza Jam series for 2022.

In addition to their own hits like “Southern Belles” and “Ocean Boulevard,” as well as “You To Me Are Everything” from their new album, the band played other classic R&B, pop and beach favorites including the Temptations’ “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” and “Lady Soul” — the latter dedicated to Jonna Carter — “Carolina Girls” by Charimen of the Board, “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond and “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars.

They also played a medley by The Tams —who performed last month — for birthday boy Johnny Long, who just turned 73. Birthday girl Linda Coward and several friends joined the band on stage before they sang “Happy Birthday” to her.

Prior to the band taking the stage, next season’s line up was announced, with several bands from this year — including the Band of Oz — returning:

  • May – Gary Lowder and Smokin’ Hot
  • June – Chocolate Chip & Company
  • July – The Entertainers
  • August – North Tower Band
  • September – The Tams
  • October – Band of Oz
