PINEHURST — Certified physician assistant Pierce Neitzke knew early in her physician assistant studies that she wanted to specialize in a surgical specialty, and she believes vascular surgery is the perfect fit for her.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed learning and understanding the intricacies of vascular surgery, and I appreciate the challenges vascular surgery has to offer, as well as the real impact that we have on our patients every day,” said Neitzke.

At FirstHealth Vascular & Vein, Neitzke joins a group of skilled surgeons and certified physician assistants that provide specialized medical care to patients experiencing vascular and vein-related diseases and conditions.  The team of providers, which is staffed by Pinehurst Surgical, includes David Adamolekun, D.O., Clinton Atkinson, M.D., Glenn Fusonie, M.D., Paul Vieta, Jr., M.D., Desek Gibson, PA-C, Adam Clark, PA-C and Stephen Bush, PA-C.

Neitzke earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in criminal justice from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.  She earned a master of medical science degree from Methodist University in Fayetteville, and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Atrium Health, Center for Advanced Practice in Charlotte.

According to Neitzke, it was her father’s influence that guided her to a career in medicine.  “My father is a physician, and I have always loved science, so I knew early on that medicine was definitely the right career choice for me.”

Neitzke’s husband serves in the military, which brought them to the area originally.  They lived in Southern Pines while Neitzke attended P.A. school at Methodist.  She said they immediately fell in love with the area.  “I knew I wanted to continue to live and practice medicine in this wonderful community.”

Neitzke and her husband have been married for three years, and they have two dogs, Addi and Sloan.  She tries as often as she can to get back to Texas to spend time with her twin sister and her five other siblings.  “My family is such an important part of my life, and we have the best time when we’re all together,” she said.  In addition to spending time with her family, Neitzke enjoys yoga, hiking, reading and cooking.
