HAMLET — Richmond Community College will offer an Emergency Medical Responder class beginning March 4. This introductory class will put students on a career path of becoming a first responder.
The course will prepare students for EMR certification. Emergency Medical Responders provide immediate assistant for patients before the arrival of Emergency Medical Technicians and during their transport to hospital. They are also trained on how to drive an ambulance, properly clean and disinfect any equipment or supplies and report facts concerning accidents or emergencies to hospital personnel or law enforcement officers. Newly certified EMR’s generally start making around $19,444 per year, while highly experienced workers can earn as much as $35, 950.
The requirements to become an EMR vary by state. In most cases, an individual must complete the Emergency Medical Responder course that meets the standards of the Office of Emergency Medical Services of North Carolina. This course will provide training and practice hours towards this certification.
The EMR class begins on March 4 and runs through June 11. This 72-hour class will meet 18 times. The instructor will inform students what days of the week the class will meet. If you are a N.C. rescue volunteer, registration fee will be waived by bringing a letter from your agency stating that you are a volunteer.
