ROCKINGHAM — The curtains go up Friday night on Richmond Community Theatre’s final show of the 2022 season.

Apropos for the holidays, RCT is presenting “A Christmas Carol: A Radio Play,” an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Christmastime classic novel about the miserly Ebeneezer Scrooge who has a change of heart following a nighttime visit from his dead business partner and three spirits.

The play, written by Phillip Grecian, is in the style of a classic radio drama where the actors “read from scripts at the three floor microphones downstage while all sound effects and music are performed live,” according to the synopsis from dramaticpublishing.com.

“Throughout, the storyteller remains in the Scrooge characterization as the other actors narrate in their natural voices while assuming new voices and dialects, becoming every character in the tale,” the synopsis reads.

The cast and crew includes: Bill Cleveland, Darla Lovin, Dean Jenks, Denise Vickers Lynch, Cleve Baxley, Lily Wilson, Anna Sulyma, Doug Smith, Alex Hill, Noah Goodman, Emily Wescott, Gavin Applewhite, Autumn Shepherd, Aidan Davis, Kadia Rucker, Alivia Rucker, Valjean Hargrove, Kennedy Hargrove, Keenan Kickman-Howel, Erica Santiago, Mary O’Kelly, Charles Turner, Lauren Turner, Emily White, Shimmer Prevatte, Cornelius Prevatte and James Toney.

“We are filled with joy to have the opportunity to present this play to you,” Theatre Director Merrie Dawkins said in a previous social media post. “All within the space of 1 hour, you will be treated to a well written, delightfully performed version of ‘The Christmas Carol.’”

Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to Toys of Tots.

The box office opens at 6 p.m. and showtime is at 7.

Additional performances are scheduled for Dec. 10, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 11 and 18 at 3 p.m.
