ROCKINGHAM — Residents of one local nursing home can now look out their windows for a little Christmas spirit.
Members of the Richmond Senior High School Beta Club spent Thursday afternoon using window paint to decorate the glass with seasonal images at PruittHealth Rockingham.
Some students painted Christmas trees, reindeer, snowflakes and snow globes, while others hung decorative ornaments in surrounding trees.
Adviser Suzanne Hudson said the club wanted to bring cheer to the residents during the holiday season “and let them know there are people that care about them during this difficult time.”
Hudson said the idea was suggested during one of the club’s officers meetings.
“I asked for a couple of point people for it and I had a couple of people volunteer to contact people to remind them about the event and also coordinate talking to PruittHealth,” she said.
While the students were decorating, Hudson said some of the residents came up to the windows and waved.
“I think it’s been good for everybody,” she said.
“PruittHealth Rockingham extends a since thank you from the residents and our partners ror the wonderful and festive decorations,” said Crystal Pankey, director of healthcare services. “The residents now have their scenery enhanced with cheer; all due to the Rockingham Senior High School Beta Club.”
This is the only project the club has planned to do, but Hudson said it could become a holiday tradition throughout the year.
“We like to do as many service-type things as we can, where the kids can get out and volunteer to do things, and I think it would be fun to do it seasonal, or by holiday,” she added.
Future ideas, Hudson said, could include hearts for Valentine’s Day and Easter eggs during the spring.
“This is an awesome group,” she said about the club members.
