ROCKINGHAM — Some of the most highly ranked academic students from across the nation gathered in June in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for the National Junior Beta Club Convention, where Rockingham Middle School students competed against the best and the brightest and honorably placed as national finalists.

The Rockets placed first in the Rapid Response Challenge where teams engaged in creative and critical thinking challenges while applying collaborative leadership skills, and effective communication to produce a result or response in an allotted time. Team members included Addison Massey, Cash Monroe, Yesenia Garcia, Tyson Holloway, Lily Wilson, Catherine Dennis, Sophia Razon, and Bobbie Faircloth.

Rising seventh graders, Cash Monroe, placed in both science and sculpture, while Joe Parsons placed sixth in woodworking.

To be invited to the National Beta Convention and qualify for competition, students must place in state competitions that were held earlier in the 2018-2019 school year in Greensboro, North Carolina.

National Beta is the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. Participants are encouraged to interact, share project ideas, and showcase their leadership abilities with fellow Beta students.

Cash Monroe placed in two individual events: Science and Sculpture.
