FAYETTE, Mo. — A Richmond County native was recently hired as a resident hall director at Central Methodist University.

Nicole Walker, of Rockingham, is one of two directors hired for the 2019-2020 school year, rounding out a staff of five, according to a press release from the college.

CMU has one director for each residence hall, and Walker will oversee the co-ed Howard Payne Hall.

Resident hall directors play “a vital role in the overall on-campus experience” at the college, “bringing knowledge, experience, and guidance to students staying in student housing,” according to the release. “They ensure leadership and safety, and typically oversee several resident hall assistants, who are also in line to help out fellow students.”

Walker is a graduate of Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education.

“I’m excited to be a part of CMU because I believe in the university’s mission and the way it encourages you to be enthusiastic in all things,” Walker said. “My favorite quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson hones in on that exact concept. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”

The other resident hall director is Darren Jones from Fulton, Missouri.

Jones, who holds a bachelor’s in criminal justice from CMU, is familiar with the campus. He will be the director for a co-ed facility set up in suites.
