NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A Richmond County-raised musician who still performs in the area has a new award to hang on the wall.

Erik Hawks, who now lives in Fayetteville, was honored as Male Performer of the Year in the 2024 Carolina Country Music Awards at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach Saturday evening.

Hawks had also been nominated for Songwriter of the Year — which went to Angier’s Paige King Johnson — and Single of the Year for his song “End of My Rope.”

“WHAT. A. NIGHT,” Hawks wrote on his Facebook page following the win. “I’m so humbled and honored to have been chosen as the Carolina Country Music Association’s Male Artist of the Year. I have the best band and fans in the world, and I couldn’t do any of this without your (support).”

Hawks and his band performed “End of My Rope” at the awards, and led the other artists in a rendition of Hank Williams Jr.’s “Family Tradition.”

In 2023, Hawks was also nominated for Male Performer of the Year.

Hawks grew up outside Ellerbe until he was in the third grade before the family moved to Roberdel. He graduated from Richmond Senior High School in 2006 and soon after began pursuing his music career.
