Sandhills Center announces January Family Support Program webinars

WEST END — The Family Support and Community Collaboration Programs are funded by Sandhills Center and conducted through a contract with North Carolina Families United. The programs support families of children with emotional, learning, and behavioral challenges.  

Jan. 19: Autism 101 webinar will be held virtually from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Judy Smithmyer, associate director of Family Support from Autism Society of North Carolina will present. Jan. 20: Community Resilience Model webinar will be held virtually from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The Community Resiliency Model trains community members to not only help themselves but to help others within their wider social network. The primary focus of this skills-based, stabilization program is to re-set the natural balance of the nervous system. CRM’s goal is to help to create “trauma-informed” and “resiliency-focused” communities that share a common understanding of the impact of trauma and chronic stress on the nervous system and how resiliency can be restored or increased using this skills-based approach. Jan. 25:  Services and Programs of Guilford County Family Justice Center webinar detailing this one-stop-agency for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse will be held Jan. 25. “The mission of the Family Justice Center is to empower family violence victims and their children to live free from violence and abuse and hold offenders accountable by providing easily accessible, coordinated, and comprehensive services in a single location.” This training is for anyone who wants to know more about the services and programs of the Family Justice Center, and how their services benefit children and youth. Jan. 25: Vaping: What You Need to Know? webinar presentation will be held from 1-2 p.m. via WebEx. Kendra Faries, Richmond Co. public health educator and Travis Greer, Region 6 tobacco control manager will be the presenters. Jan. 14: Five County System of Care Community Collaborative meeting will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. via WebEx. System of Care is a network of community-based services and supports that are organized to meet the challenges of children and youth with serious mental health needs and their families. The System of Care Collaborative brings together the perspectives of families, youth, providers, child and family services, community members and other stakeholders. The SOC Collaborative meeting provides networking opportunities and time for working in partnership with public and private organizations so services and support are effective, build on the strengths of individuals, and address each person’s cultural and linguistic needs. The Five County SOC Community Collaborative includes the following counties: Hoke, Moore, Richmond, Anson and Montgomery.
