Sandhills Center announces March Family Support Program webinars

WEST END — The Family Support and Community Collaboration Programs are funded by Sandhills Center and conducted through a contract with North Carolina Families United. The programs support families of children with emotional, learning, and behavioral challenges.  

March 17: Remembering Me: Benefits of Me-Time webinar will be held virtually from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022. Joanne Scaturro, MSW will be the presenter. March 22: Exploring Best Practices in Residential Care – Part 2 webinar will include panelists resuming the discussion on best practices in residential care, the factors that impact placement disruptions, and emphasize how systems can work together more effectively to improve the outcomes for children. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the second part of this series. This will be a virtual meeting in a panel format. March 23: Healthy Eating webinar will be held from 1-2 p.m. via WebEx. Karen Moody, MS, RD, LDN with FirstHealth of the Carolinas Diabetes and Nutrition Education Center will be the presenter. March 24: Mindfulness Overview webinar will be held virtually from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 24. Pinnacle Family Services staff will be discussing mindfulness, which is a mental state that is achieved by focusing one’s awareness of the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations. Mindfulness allows us to utilize therapeutic techniques that bring us to the calm within the storm. Please join us as we share the importance of mindfulness and teach strategies for adults and children. We look forward to seeing you. March 29: Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Education will be held virtually from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. Tami Hailey, LCMHC from New Horizon will present. Discussion will help inform and educate the community on what psychosocial rehabilitation really is and what populations are impacted within the community. March 10: Parents, Foster Parents and Caregivers Support Group meeting will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. via WebEx. It is a support group for families of children with emotional, learning or behavioral challenges. Suzanne Maness will be the facilitator. March 11: Five County System of Care Community Collaborative meeting will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. via WebEx. System of Care is a network of community-based services and supports that are organized to meet the challenges of children and youth with serious mental health needs and their families. The System of Care Collaborative brings together, the perspectives of families, youth, providers, child and family services, community members and other stakeholders. The SOC Collaborative meeting provides networking opportunities and time for working in partnership with public and private organizations so services and support are effective, build on the strengths of individuals, and address each person’s cultural and linguistic needs. The Five County SOC Community Collaborative includes the following counties: Hoke, Moore, Richmond, Anson and Montgomery.
