Sandhills Center announces May Family Support Program webinars

WEST END — The Family Support and Community Collaboration Programs are funded by Sandhills Center and conducted through a contract with North Carolina Families United. The programs support families of children with emotional, learning, and behavioral challenges.  

May 10: Community Resilience Model Training will be an overview for anyone who wants to learn about the biology of stress, explore the impact of trauma on individuals and communities, and learn how resiliency can be restored or increased through six simple wellness skills. Join the Guilford County System of Care collaborative and the Kellin Foundation for this free skills-based (virtual) training in honor of National Children’s Mental Health month. The training will be held from 11 a.m.–noon. The deadline for registration is Monday, May 9, 2022 at 5 p.m.

May 12: Triple P Parenting webinar will be held virtually from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. Triple P is an evidence-based program that aims to build confidence in parents and caregivers while providing positive parenting tips to help parents more effectively. Discussion will cover the overall basic foundation detailing Triple P and the levels family support agencies can be trained in to offer to parents/caregivers. Also discussed will be the Stay Positive media campaign which is being implemented within the region for the next fiscal year. May 12: Invisible Sentence: Recognizing, Supporting and Advocating for Children of Incarcerated and Returning Parents webinar will be held from 1-2 p.m. via WebEx. Melissa Radcliff, program director with Our Children’s Place of Coastal Horizons Center will be the presenter. May 23:  A Voice for a Child in Court webinar will be held virtually from 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. This will be a panel discussion led by Darnell McMath, Guardian ad Litem supervisor for District 19B. There will be an overview of county statistics, child welfare trends and discussion of the dynamics of children involved in care. May 23: Engaging Kids with Art Even if You’re Not an Artist webinar will be held virtually from 1-2 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022. Portia L Purcell, MA, NCC, LCMHC, LCAS will be the presenter. May 13: Five County System of Care Community Collaborative meeting will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. via Microsoft Teams. System of Care is a network of community-based services and supports that are organized to meet the challenges of children and youth with serious mental health needs and their families. The System of Care Collaborative brings together the perspectives of families, youth, providers, child and family services, community members and other stakeholders. The SOC Collaborative meeting provides networking opportunities and time for working in partnership with public and private organizations so services and support are effective, build on the strengths of individuals, and address each person’s cultural and linguistic needs. The Five County SOC Community Collaborative includes the following counties: Hoke, Moore, Richmond, Anson and Montgomery. The meeting is held monthly on the second Friday at 9:30 am.
