Sandhills Neurologists joins FirstHealth, expanding access to neurological care

PINEHURST — Sandhills Neurologists has joined FirstHealth of the Carolinas, providing more access to high-quality neurological care for patients in the Sandhills and Triangle. 

Board certified neurologists Giridhar Chintalapudi, M.D., Henry Tellez, M.D. and their staff will continue serving patients in clinics located in Pinehurst, Sanford and Cary. 

Dan Barnes, D.O., president of FirstHealth Physician Group, said the system is thrilled that the new additions will allow FirstHealth to offer enhanced neurological care to patients throughout the region. 

“Sandhills Neurologists has a longstanding reputation for providing exceptional neurological care, and we are thrilled to add Drs. Chintalapudi and Tellez to the FirstHealth family,” Barnes said. “Their arrival bolsters our robust neurological services team, the neurohospitalists, neurosurgeons, therapists, nurses and specially trained staff that are part of the FirstHealth rehabilitation teams.”

Sandhills Neurologists – A FirstHealth Clinic will treat all common neurological conditions, including headaches and migraines, epilepsy and seizure disorders, dementia, multiple sclerosis, gait disorders, stroke and other neuromuscular disorders. 

“We started Sandhills Neurologists in 2000, and our practice has experienced tremendous growth,” Chintalapudi said. “Together, Dr. Tellez and I bring a unique combination of experience and specialized training to the patients we serve, and we are excited to do it with a new name: Sandhills Neurologists – A FirstHealth Clinic. We’re excited to partner with FirstHealth of the Carolinas, the area’s leading health care provider, to continue our longstanding commitment to providing exceptional care to our patients.”

Tellez echoed Chintalapudi’s excitement, saying that patients of Sandhills Neurologists will only be better served by the relationship with FirstHealth. 

“We look forward to these exciting changes, but our commitment to caring for our patients will not change,” he said. “With FirstHealth, our practice will only get better.” 

A native of India, Dr. Chintalapudi (Dr. Chin) completed medical school at Kurnool Medical School in Southern India. After moving to the United States in 1994, he completed a neurology residency at the State University of New York – Stony Brook where he was nominated as doctor of the year by patients.

Tellez was born in Detroit and raised in Colombia. He obtained his medical degree from Universidad del Valle, Cali Colombia, completed his internship and neurology residency at Saint Louis University in Missouri, then a fellowship on EMG/NCV & Neuromuscular medicine at University of North Carolina.  Dr. Tellez is fluent in Spanish to better serve Spanish -speaking patients.
