Simply By Faith

Lucy Allen

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

My husband and I decided to put the small pond boat on the water and meander around the pond while he fished off and on. It was a late summer afternoon on the pond, there was no wind and the water was so very still. It was unusual that there were no wildlife sounds, everything was still and quiet. As we glided across the surface I noticed the trees were reflected perfectly. It gave me an Alice in Wonderland feeling. The trees seemed to flow from right side up to upside down without interruption.

My mind wandered to the story of Jesus walking on water when Peter called out to him, 11″Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Matthew 17. As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he walked on the water’s surface, but as soon as he looked away he began to sink.

The same thing happens when we as Christians loose our focus and waiver in our faith. We look away from Jesus and our walk becomes a little bit wobbly, our feet a little heavier as we sink into the mire of the world.

Faith is simply believing in something and then committing our lives to it. Here the something is God and His Son Jesus. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 1:11, Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

We all have faith in electricity, so we believe when we turn on the switch the light will come on. Electric currents aren’t seen, but we do see the results in the glow of the light bulb or the noise of the dishwasher.

Plug into Jesus and by faith allow Him to be the life and light giver to your soul. The results will be amazing!
