ROCKINGHAM — The Entertainers return to Cole Plaza this Thursday as Plaza Jam, the city’s annual summer concert series, hits its mid-season point.

The band has been entertaining audiences across the Carolinas for four decades, having formed in 1980 and scoring a regional hit with “Living for the Summer” the same year, according to the band’s website.

Their song “Thank Goodness She Cheated,” from the 2009 album “The Inside Story” became a No. 1 hit for the band.

The Entertainers were inducted into the Carolina Beach Music Association Hall of Fame in 2000.

Primarily playing beach— featuring originals, and covers from the Embers, Chairman of the Board and the Drifters — and R&B, the Entertainers also work in Top 40, classic rock and country tunes into their set lists.

Other artists covered by the Entertainers range from the Temptations to Delbert McClinton to Justin Timberlake to Brooks and Dunn.

The band was supposed to perform in June 2021, but that show was canceled due to the threat of summer thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 20-30% chance of storms for Thursday afternoon/evening.

Still on the schedule for this year’s series are North Tower Band in August, the Tams in September and Band of Oz in October.

This will make the 20th consecutive year (excluding 2020) that the Tams have played Plaza Jam.

All concerts are free and open to the public and held on the first Thursday of each month from May-October.

Food trucks will be set up in the parking lot of Leath Memorial Library.

Smoking is prohibited on the lawn.
