Kidz Konstruction children sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Lt. Col. Ring

ROCKINGHAM — For retired Lt. Col. Jon Ring, Flag Day is a special occasion.

But it’s not just because of his patriotism and career in the U.S. Army.

June 14 is his birthday.

It is also the Army’s birthday, with the branch having been established June 14, 1775.

Ring commented that it was almost as good as been born on the Fourth of July.

Following a Flag Day event at VFW Post 4203 on Friday, the children from Kidz Konstruction Day Care in Hamlet sang “Happy Birthday” to Ring.

“Boy, that was nice,” he said, just before leaving. “That just made my day.”

Ring recently contributed a series of eight “Dispatches from Normandy” while participating in the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1944, which can be found under the Lifestyles tab on RichmondObserver.com. The first one can be found by clicking here.
